Tuesday, Nov. 30, 2004 - 10:42 p.m. knitting circle
HA! I love love *love* my Tuesday night knitting group! (Yes, that's what I have been up to, instead of going to fight practice....) The group is comprised mostly of women who teach at my daughter's school, and one of the ringleaders, so to speak, is Kira's kindergarten teacher. She and I struck up a friendship last year when we discovered our mutual addiction to crafty things. Anyway, we have been meeting at the Barnes and Noble near my house every Tuesday at 7. We knit, share projects and patterns, teach each other, shop, drink coffee and talk about men. The span of ages and life experiences is just broad enough to be interesting and fun, and everyone there has a great sense of humor and a creative streak. You'd think, because it's a "knitting group" that it would be rather....staid. Not so. There are plenty of loud and hilarious discussions of various types. One of the members is the school's speech pathologist, which is nice for me, since I can knit and speech-geek, too. :) Anyway, we have been laughing a lot lately. And Jane (Kira's former kdg teacher) is always a great source of parenting reassurance for me. Today I finished another scarf -- one for myself this time -- and she helped me decide what kidn of project I may try next. I added an idea for her scarf about beads on the ends as a fringe, and we all shared a current joke about knitted thongs (don't ask). It's nice to hang out sometimes, like that, and make noise, and be creative and learn something new. I always feel energized when I leave there. I can actually knit! Yay! I feel pretty good. I even got some Christmas shopping done while I was there, so I am ahead of the game. Excellent. I like it when things are happy, relaxed, and run smoothly. Now I'm going to go hug my dear, sweet wonderful husband, and kiss my beautiful sleeping daughter one last time before I go to bed.
