general holiday prep

Whew, I sure am glad I don't waste any time reading the Armour Archive with any sort of regularity....although it is amusing the way some people seem to pick fights. Or at least annoy large (groups of) people.

Anyway.....in other news......

We got our Christmas tree today. It's up, and resting and drinking water in the library. We'll decorate it tomorrow night.

The house smells wonderful! I am really looking forward to Christmas, even if Kira has to go to her dad's for her Christmas break.

I feel like dirt this evening. So does Balynar. Apparently we caught some kind of creeping crud and it manifested itself late in the day yesterday. Well, I felt sort of crummy all day yesterday, but he felt bad last night.

Christmas shopping is basically done. I put up the outdoor lights this afternoon, and Laz came over and put up the lights on the small overhang over our front door. Yay Laz! Thanks!

I have three batches of Italian chocolate cookie dough in the freezer, and a batch of shortbread dough frozen, too. There's a roll of sugar cookie dough in there as well. I only have to make one more batch of shortbread dough, and then a batch of almond press cookies, some candies, some chocolate spoons, and maybe some spiced almonds and my grandma's date bars, and I'm done! There's a bakery in Carytown that has pannetone, which I'd like this year, and I need to procure a ham. Ta-da! Christmas food! The only thing I don't have -- and I'd love to find some -- is torrone, an Italian nougat candy with almonds that is actually period to the 15th century. I used to have it in little boxes at Christmas time when I was a kid in NY, and I haven't seen it anywhere around here. :(

Hmmm....I wonder if I could get Myne to bring me some big green olives from PA, and then I could make an olive salad, too....

I love Christmas food! I *was* going to make Cornish game hens for Christmas Eve dinner, but Travis requested a spiral honey ham, and it's less work for me, so that's what we will do.

Much to do before the holidays....much to do....sewing and glass and wrapping presents, baking, candy-making....sigh....good thing I love to do this stuff! :)

I guess I am going to go sit on the couch, drink the beer I am having, and knit.
