Ice Show Day 1

First performance of the Holiday on Ice show is complete.....Kira was a trouper, for sure. She was so cute in her costume, and she did such a great job on the ice....it was terrific!

Her dad and grandmother even came to see it, which was nice, too. I spent a good bit of time chatting with my ex-mother-in-law, which is something we haven't done in about four years. It was actually pleasant. I found myself almost telling her things like, I learned to knit, and work glass, and other crafty-artsy things I have started/learned in the last four years. But then I realized she probably wouldn't give a damn about any of it anyway. Why should she, really? I am no longer married to her son. Her son, my ex-husband, said pretty much nothing the whole time. I suppose it's too much for me to hope that some day he and I will be able to have a conversation without him being an ass, or trying to one-up me, or me being wrong all the time. I swear, I could say the sky was blue and he'd tell me, no, it was actually azure. I guess some chasms will never be bridged. Anyway.

All was well until time for them to go....Kira had been on the ice and in her costume since 5pm, and it was now just about 10pm...no real dinner....exhausted....skating around after the show with the kids....she just crumbled into a mass of tears. It was not spectacular. She was a lot better after getting home, talking to Travis and getting some hugs and a bowl opf Mommy's very special Fixes-Everything-And-Makes-You-Feel-All-Better pasta with butter and cheese. Now she's hopefully asleep, tucked in with her "friendly friends" (stuffed animals of various shapes and sizes) and her yellow blankie.

(I DO NOT HAVE TO WORK TOMORROW!!!!... just wanted to mention that....)

The scene at the rink before the show was....interesting....I'm not much of a 'sports mom'....and the rink folks were not letting anyone save seats in the bleachers til after 6pm, so there was this line forming outside the rink at 5:30. Then people were going in and laying out blankets over the bleachers to mark their spaces....three and four blankets so two people would save seats for seven! And then we'd be jammed in there like sardines, and hope to hell you didn't have to pee or anything, 'cause you were NOT getting up til intermission! Scary. Here I was, with my camera bag and my jacket, trying to decide how I was going to fit me, my ex-mother-in-law and my ex-husband into the space my butt was occupying, since I didn't have the foreknowledge to bring perimeter-establishing equipment with me. Sigh. I have revised my plan of attack, however, and tomorrow I will be prepared with a blanket. And my mom is coming with me, too, so she can help stake out some space.

I'm also going to pack a bigger and better snack for the munchkin and her friend Stacy. Stacy's mom, Crystal, bought them sodas and chips from the snack bar, and I did a bunch of seat-saving for her.

It was all good. Kira's in bed, hopefully happier, or at least more peaceful about everything.

Travis went to work overnight. Yuck. :(

I think I will take the opportunity to wrap some of Travis' presents, and then relax in bed. And take up the whole bed for sleeping, at least until Travis gets home at 4am.

CLoser and closer to Christmas....the only thing I'm behind on is the baking, now....

Happy Holidays, everyone!
