sick

When it rains, it pours.

Around 4 this morning, Kira wandered into my room, attempted to climb on me while I was asleep, and whispered, "Mommy, my throat hurts." Me, being the sympathetic and exhausted Mommy that I am, whispered back, "Drink some water. And try to go back to sleep, honey." And then a reached over to give her a hug, and felt the fire blazing across her forehead.

Visions of the flu, or strep throat dancing in my head, it took about a microsecond before I was completely and totally awake, and going down the hall for the thermometer.

She sounded bad, looked worse, and a dose of ibuprofen later, she was tucked back in bed with an ice pack from the freezer wrapped in a towel. The thermometer read 102. Yow. After she was asleep again, I trundled back to bed, my mind now completely alert and racing with logistical planning:

Okay, now, Travis can sit with her, but can't really help her much. I can go to work for a couple of hours, if I get up really early and she sleeps late....then I can get back before lunch, hopefully, and take care of them both. Then there is Brownies tonight -- should Kira go? I don't know -- and after that a Girl Scout Leader's meeting....Travis will be ok to watch her if I have to go to the meeting....I hope work isn't too crazy....I really need to get back to sleep for a bit....

Yeah. The logistics weren't too bad, though, all told. Travis was able to be up and get her breakfast. She wasn't as sick as I had thought -- thank God -- and I was actually able to get home before lunch. Now Kira is upstairs playing and Travis is sleeping on the couch.

Sigh. I hate it when stuff like this happens. Kira almost never is sick, or at least almost never runs a fever, so when she does, something's wrong.

I think she is fine, though. Just a cold.

Now I hope I don't get it. On the good side, I ahve been able to get a lot of stuff done around here, since I've been home.

Back to taking care of my family....
