going to KASF

So, my husband is quite literally the most special and wonderful man on earth. Yesterday, I received a phone call from Central Supply here at work, telling me I had a ‘personal package’ waiting for me in the supply office. Hmmm….who the heck is sending me personal packages at work?… I had no idea, so I went down there and walked back to my office with a long, skinny shipping box.

Two dozen roses.

TWO dozen.

I’ve never gotten two dozen roses before. They are gorgeous; a mix of pinks and yellows and peach, and they go perfectly in my office, which has pale yellow walls. Reminds me that I definitely need some color in here.

I swear, I don’t know how I got so lucky to have this man in my life, but I sure am glad to have him. Thank you, babe, I love you.

So much for being blue! :)

So, tonight I am traveling to Kingdom Arts and Sciences Festival, in NC with a company of friends, Thjora, Gen and Alan, who were gracious enough to include me in the trip, since I am traveling alone. Travis is working overnights, starting tonight and continuing for two weeks straight. I don’t think I can express enough just how much this sucks. Especially since it is likely that he will be gone to work by the time I get back from dropping Kira off in Madison. At least he’ll be home on Sunday when I get back from the event. Last night was all about finishing the new panel and getting stuff packed so I’m ready to go this evening.

The panel came out looking pretty well, all things considered, but of course as soon as it was done, I saw exactly how I would change it if I could do it again. I’m actually pretty impressed with my painting, even though the materials are not the period ones. It still looks pretty.

I decided that I can’t drag all my equipment for flat glassworking down to NC, so I am bringing my torch and flameworking supplies. I don’t have a project for flat glass right now, anyway, so it was going to be more work for me to get one together right now. I’ll be happy to make beads, and sit with my work and talk to people and explain it to them. Especially since I am bringing samples I did when I was trying out the paints. I also wrote a small discussion of why I chose the paint I did, and how I am working with it to get the effect I want.

It should be fun. Hopefully, I will be able to plug in my lightbox, so I can show the small panel to best effect. The new panel will hang in my usual dowel-and-wooden stand, and I was smart enough this time to pack a white cloth to hang behind it in case of lack of backlight. :)
I’m less blue today. More hopeful about the things I can’t control that were contributing to my state of mind, and trying to stay committed to my gym routine to help stave off stress-related weight gain and all those over-30 things. Anyway, the sun is out, even though it’s cold, and that means spring is coming. I have plans for the yard and garden this year, and maybe Travis and I will even get to go away somewhere, just the two of us, for the weekend or something – without involving the 10th through the 15th centuries.

Hope everyone has a good weekend, and I hope to see some of you tomorrow at KASF.
