Saturday, Mar. 26, 2005 - 4:05 p.m. new yarn shop!
MMMMmmmmm...yummy lunch follows excellent solo shopping adventure.... I'm eating a lovely bowl of marinated mushrooms, olives, roasted red peppers, and artichoke hearts, along with a few good wheat crackers and some smoked gouda. I have fresh chevre from Landovel Farms, and some good dates. Heaven is an antipasta. Actually, heaven is a good new yarn shop. The Yarn Lounge in Carytown is a fabulous new shop for all us fiber-geeks and knitting fiends. I love the vintage feel, the wood shelves, the old wire baskets and the big couches. I especially loved Homer, the shop dog, who was particularly cute, but unable to come close for me to pet. Must have been the massive poncho I was wearing that scared him off. The yarn there is excellent. Prices were good, the staff was friendly, helpful and eprsonable, even though they were busy trying to put things away, and the selection was good enough for me. I came away (after spending probably and hour or two) with a big bag o' goodies: a basic sock pattern, a celtic knot cable sock pattern, the Rowan Summer Tweed book, four skeins of gorgeous, soft Jo Sharp DK Tweed yarn (for my summer poncho!) in Emerald, and a big skein of yellow and orange striping sock yarn. Wow! I can't wait to start on my summer poncho this afternoon, and hopefully will get that finished soon. I'm intrigued by the sock yarn,as well, and so that will be next. Too many good things to knit! Ok, Jane, now I see why you say you won't be able to knit all the wonderful yarn in the world before you die....there's just too much wonderful stuff to make! I felt this way when I first started to sew; no way would I ever be able to satisy my need to work with all those gorgeous fabrics! Sigh.... After the Yarn lounge, I went over to Ellwood-Thompson's for the chevre and some tea for my husband, who, I just found out, loves Earl Grey. I also got some good oatmeal. I don't drive enough in the city these days, so I had to do a double circuit around Carytown to figure out how to get back on 195 so I could go to the glass shop. Once I got there, I bought a sheet of blue textured glass to surround the Virgin and Child window with, and some zinc channel to finish it. I am going to go do that before I start on the afternoon's knitting. Now, I'm home here with the dogs, about to step into my workshop and finish that panel. Then....on to the knitting!
